James Elvery
Triathlon

Tell us about yourself:
I’ve been doing triathlons since I was 13 years old, as well as swimming, cycling and running events. I studied Sport and Exercise Science and International Business in Auckland, and since finishing have been based in Christchurch for the NZ Summer months. For the past 5 years I’ve travelled overseas from May to October to compete in the Northern Hemisphere. In May 2009 I was included in the Triathlon NZ potential squad for the London Olympics in 2012 and spend about half the year travelling and training with the team.

How did you get into your sport?
My Dad did triathlons so I always went along to watch. Growing up I was a competitive swimmer but once I got to high school I decided I wanted to be a triathlete.

Biggest achievement so far and why:
Racing for NZ in the Elite men’s race at Gold Coast Sept 2009, because it took me over 10 years to get there.

Approach to training and nutrition:
I just try to maintain a balanced diet, making sure I eat a wide variety of foods. When I’m training hard, I basically just eat as much as physically possible! Closer to competition, and during races I pay a lot more attention to what is going in the tank, with timing of meals and use of supplements on race-day being something I have got a handle on in the last couple of years.

I’m looking forward to using Replace in my training and racing in 2010 competing in the ITU World Championship Series around the world.

Fav Product: REPLACE HYDRATION

Reason: It just tastes better than anything else out there, and the science behind it is sound.
