Bodybuilding

Born in Upper Hutt , I have been into weight training since the age of 18, initially it helped in my other sport of soccer but also got me interested in personal training. I have worked in gyms since I was 21 as aerobic instructor and personal trainer.
I have my own nutrition and training coaching business that I run part time and help many with their diets for all kinds of sports and for weight loss. I work full time in graphic design and really enjoy being creative.
Four years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia and the sport of bodybuilding has helped me mentally deal with the disease. A high protein diet has made a huge difference in how I feel and recover. Using a protein powder helps with my recovery and contribute to my wellbeing while on medication.

Biggest achievement so far and why: Winning Overall Miss New Zealand for the third time while dealing with diagnosis of Leukemia and looking in my best shape on stage. In that same year I won Miss ProAm for the third time and then onto win Muscle Mania Australia Figure. It was a matter of proving I could still do it while fighting something else! Having a focus kept me positive.
How did you get into your sport? I got into hard weight training by a friend who dared me to try a real gym, which was Golds in Hamilton. At the time I was more into aerobics and soccer. I have loved training power lifting style ever since and prefer the old school basics with my training.
I had always loved the look of bodybuilding and read every article I could on the training and eating. Finally after seven years of thinking about trying a show I committed to the dieting and got myself up on stage when I was 25. I was in an abusive relationship at the time so I needed something to prove to my self worth. Getting up on stage for the first time is a day I will never forget, it was a huge thing to get up in front of hundreds in a small bikini. I won my first show which was the Northern Alberta, Canada championships. Two days after the show I went back on a diet and the rest is history as I was hooked and competed a month after my first, then came back to NZ and continued.

Fav Product:
CROSSFIRE PROTEIN
Reason:
It tastes really good and mixes great. I use it in my protein pancakes.
Carb Less Crunch bars: these are fantastic! I eat one as my mid-morning snack. They aren't sweet or overpowering.
Ripped Factors Xtreme Thermogenic capsules: I use these closer to a show to help kick the fat burning process a bit more into a show.
Approach to training and nutrition: I believe there is no need to overtrain to get the results you want, always keep it simple. I can't imagine a gym not being in my life, it keeps me sane. I have always been fascinated on how the body changes with different nutrition ideas and have tried many diet fads to see how they work. The interest in this area grew so I did a Diploma in Nutrition and then followed up with a Sports Performance Certificate to educate myself further. It took me years to learn and after many mistakes on myself, have leart that nutrition and supplementation is the majoy part to achieving in any sport and for overall well being.
