Ed Aish's 12 Week Challenge

Meet Edward Aish from Taranaki, New Zealand. For years, Ed was overweight and unfit. Then the death of someone close to him and the birth of his daughter spurred him into action - with amazing results. Read his story here…

My Story - Ed Aish

On May 27 2003, only a few days before his 60th birthday, my father died of prostate cancer. One year later I was lucky enough to become the father of one gorgeous little girl. It was a beautiful yet sad time as I was starting a family of my own, but it was one that my father would never get to see. This was the beginning of my journey.

I started thinking about my health – after all, I wanted to be around for as long as possible. Given my family history of heart disease and cancer I was going to have to start being proactive. So in January 2005 I joined World Gym, and went three times a week. 18 months later I was much healthier and my fitness was vastly improved, but I weighed in at 117kgs and 26% body fat, the same weight as when I started at the gym. I was so frustrated with myself. I have always been a big guy and for at least the last 10 years have been well over the 100kg mark, but had this feeling that the real me was stuck under a thick layer of gunk!

Sure, I’d heard about diets and transformation challenges, but thought I could make the difference with exercise alone. Finally in August 2006, the penny dropped. If I wanted to lose the fat, lower my risk of heart disease and get the body I wanted I was going to have to go the hard yards with both exercise and diet. Just as I reached this conclusion, a friend popped in for a visit. He had begun to diet in preparation for the body-building nationals. I took a copy of his eating plan and combined it with some other info, coming up with my own version of a 12-week challenge.

The diet went well and I began to drop weight fast. No more fizzy drink (I has been drinking least a litre of Coke or Sprite a day!), no piles of sugar on my breakfast (that was if I ate breakfast). At my first fat test at about 5 weeks, I had lost 2% body fat. But my weight loss wasn’t just fat – I had shed a large amount of muscle too. Not happy at all about sacrificing my hard earned muscle, I thought that I should include some supplements in my diet. Deb at Low Carb Lifestyles in New Plymouth recommended Horleys to me. I’d heard of Horleys, it was a brand that I trusted. After checking out their website I decided to buy Ripped Factors protein and Ripped Factors Extreme capsules. And man am I glad I did! I continued to lose weight at about the same rate but, and this is the amazing bit, four weeks later I had dropped over 6% body fat to come in at 17.5%. At the 12-week mark, I was down to 15%!

The difference is incredible. Finally I can see the effort I had been putting in at the gym. In 12 weeks I have lost 17.5kgs, 11% body fat and 27cm around my waist, and I feel like a new person!

This is just the start for me now – I would like to continue to reduce my body fat and I aim to enter an amateur body building competition sometime in 2007. Horleys products are great, and they taste good too. I am looking forward to using more of their range like ICE Whey, to help me achieve even more from here. The bottom line is I would have had good results without them, but with Horleys the results I have achieved are awesome!
